Christmas is that time of the year when it is important for everything to sparkle. That is why we go to so much trouble putting up the decorations and Christmas lights. Some people go to inordinate lengths and expense, to put festive lights all over the outside of their houses. Children especially love the displays. And while it is not really necessary to go that far and cover your home with strings of lights, it is rewarding to be able to amaze and delight the children with some kind of light display. But the time when Christmas is looming closer is when we decide to get the lights out from the loft or the garage, only to discover they are in a spaghetti-like tangle, and some of the bulbs are no longer functioning.

There is another way: cheap fibre optic Christmas trees. These trees have many advantages, and the fact that they will not shed needles is just one of them. They come in all sorts of shades as well as the traditional green. Their branches can be twisted into just about any shape you want. Most of them are about 3ft or 4ft high, which is very handy if space is at a premium. And you do not have to spread lights all over them, the lights are already there.

You can get a choice of colours as well as white - red, purple, blue - and some come with a Christmas star already on the top of the tree. There are also bonsai versions, which are naturally smaller, but equally festive and some have the option of flashing lights as well.
