Excitement and good times were had by all yesterday after a fantastic Poundstretcher opening rocked Market Deeping! Located on Godsey Lane, we were delighted to have the Mayor of Market Deeping, Mrs. Pauline Redshaw, with us to officially open the store for trade!

With fantastic bargains waiting for the people of Market Deeping, we further celebrated our grand opening the usual way... with an action-packed Fun Day! We had free games, amazing giveaways, balloons, game shows, and so much more!

With an investment of £500,000, this newly designed former Co-Op store has all current staff positions secured. and is the final Co-Op store we have taken over. Previously, we have had our last four (Ramsey, SwaffhamSyston, and Dronfield) Co-Op-to-Poundstretcher Stores opened within the last two months, employing over 100 members of staff in all.

Offering a great selection of branded food and drink, be on the look-out for our range of seasonal products, providing great bargains every day. We have all you'd ever need this spring to turn your outdoor space into a lush paradise, be it gardening supplies, solar lights, garden furniture, or ornaments.

"All the locals were pleased with everything we had to offer and all the bargains available to them. It's very satisfying to see all our customers happy after being given such a pleasant shopping experience."

A big shout-out to all our loyal customers and hard-working staff in Market Deeping for making this Poundstretcher grand opening run smooth as always!

  • Get Set for Spring Cleaning with Our 5 Easy Tips

Where has the time gone? It's April already and spring is very much in full bloom! With Easter now behind us, it's time to think about (if you haven't already) cracking on with some spring cleaning before it slips away from you!

With our wide range of products here at Poundstretcher, you'll have everything you need to tackle this task before you. Here are a few quick tips to help make everything easier and our top choice of cleaning products to use.

Tip #0: Before You Begin - Clean Your Utensils

The last thing you want is to track more dirt and pesky dust bunnies around your home, right? Well, then one of the first things you should consider before sweeping your brooms left, right, and centre is to give the bristles a good cleaning. This goes for any cloths you wish to use too.

Just simply give them a quick once-over with your vacuum (making sure to give the nozzle a clean afterwards too) or wash it with warm, soapy water. Also make sure you give your sponges a good soak too.

Tip #1: Clean Your Light Fixtures

You'll be amazed at how dusty your light fixtures can get, and also at how much it can slightly alter the lighting in your home. All it takes is a quick climb up a stepladder, a sponge, and some handy Flash all-purpose cleaner to get the job done.

Regular up-keep also prevents the build-up in these tough to reach places, meaning you'll have a cleaner home. It's especially useful to bear in mind if someone in the house has dust allergies and/or breathing difficulties.

Tip #2: Wipe Every Surface, Even Vertical Ones

It isn't just the kitchen counters and other horizontal surfaces you should clean on a regular basis. Build-up can occur on your cupboard doors and drawers too, almost seeming invisible. It's a good idea to give everything a good wipe with some antibacterial surface cleaner to get rid of the germs for good.

Tip #3: Deep Clean Your Fridge

Same as the windows, make sure you clean the inside and outside of your fridge; you'd be surprised how much grime can gather on your fridge door! Gather up all your refrigerated supplies and give the entire inside a good clean. Pull out all the interior shelves and wash them in warm soapy water, followed by wiping down everything else that cannot be removed (this includes the sides, bottom, and fridge 'ceiling'.).

Tip #4: Clean the Windows Inside & Out

First off, did you know it's a better idea to clean your windows on a cloudy day? That way you can ensure the water and Mr Muscle window spray will not dry and create a load of speckles before you're done.

It can be difficult to clean the outside of your windows if they're not reachable at ground level. However, it's worth making sure they're just as clean as the inside. What's the point of cleaning the windows on the inside, if there are smudges and dirt on the outside? One product that can help you is our Window Cleaning Kit, containing a rubber squeegee, microfibre mop, a replacement window mop pad, ergonomic hand grip, and telescopic pole (that extends to 1.05cm approx.)!

Tip #5: Declutter All The Clutter

Finally, tackle the biggest part of spring cleaning (getting rid of and/or organising all your clutter) with our range of storage options! This doesn't mean cramming things anywhere, stuffing them into a box, and leaving them under the bed. No, you might as well do a complete clear out of all your unwanted books, movies, and knick-knacks (either selling them on eBay or giving them to a charity shop). The rest of them can then be organised by size/subject/genre and then neatly aligned.

For your clothes, some over-door hooks can work wonders in freeing up some space, as would placing your random bits and pieces in any of our plastic storage containers. Also, similar to organising your books and movies, it would be worth doing the same for clothes. Having a designated space for each type of clothing (and also arranging them by occasion) would make your daily routine much smoother.

Have any other top tips on cleaning wizardry to share? Maybe you're a domestic deity who wishes to impart a fantastic way of tackling daily cleaning chores? Well then, share your thoughts and views on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and also be sure to check out our weekly competitions and amazing deals.

  • Recipe: Devilicious Halloween Cookies

These devilicious cookies are the perfect treat for your ghoulish guests this Halloween!  Use our cookie cutters to create spooky shapes then get creative with your icing to really make these cookies spooktacular!

Preparation time: 1 to 2 hours

Cooking time: 10 to 30 mins

    Serves: 20

    Ingredients

    • 250g/9oz unsalted butter, softened
    • 250g/9oz golden caster sugar
    • 2 free-range eggs, lightly beaten
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • 500g/1lb 2oz plain flour
    • red and black food colouring (optional)
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • Halloween-themed cookie cutters
    • red, white and black writing icing
    • 200g/7oz ready-to-roll fondant icing
    • 1 tbsp apricot jam, warmed with 1tsp water

    Method

    1. Beat together the butter and sugar in a large bowl, preferably using an electric mixer, until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla extract. (If the mixture looks a little curdled, add a spoonful of the flour.) If you’re using food colouring, add a few drops to the mixture.

    2. Sift together the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl. Stir the flour into the butter mixture and work into a dough using floured hands. Turn onto a floured work surface and knead into a ball (the dough will be quite wet). Divide the dough into two portions, wrap in cling film and leave to chill in the fridge for at least one hour.

    3. Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/Gas 3. Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper.

    4. Roll the dough out to a 0.5cm/¼in thickness on lightly floured work surface. (It’s best to roll out one portion of the dough at a time, leaving the remainder in the fridge.) Cut shapes out with the Halloween cutters. Take a few limbs and heads off the gingerbread man for added gore.

    5. Place the cookies onto the baking tray, leaving a gap between them in case they spread a little.

    6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, leave on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling.

    7. Once cool, let your imagination run wild. Use the red writing icing along the edges of the missing limbs and heads as blood. For the skeletons and mummies, roll the fondant icing out to a 0.5cm/¼in thickness on a work surface dusted with icing sugar and cut out shapes using the same cutters as the cookies. Brush the cookies with the warmed apricot jam and stick the icing onto the cookies. Decorate with the white and black writing icing.

  • The HOW TO not get stuck in the mud this Festival Season

    MUSIC FESTIVAL - ˈfɛstɪv(ə)l/

    noun

    plural noun: music festivals

    1. An organised series of live music, avant-garde dance moves and dwindling standards of hygiene, typically held in one place annually
    2. A day or period of celebration where most social norms are abandoned, muddiness is a staple fashion statement and being drenched becomes the threat that umbrellas the entire event.

    Bridget Jones Festival

Whether you’re a seasoned festival goer or it’s your first time in the 'strawberry fields', most people have seen the years of media coverage in Glastonbury capturing thousands of sodden and grotty music fans squelching about and becoming engulfed in relentless barrages of torrential rain.

But don’t ‘Freak Out’ — stay Chic!

    shutterstock_298767080

Get stocked up with these inexpensive essentials so you can successfully 'eat, sleep, rave, repeat' like Fatboy for the duration and leave the event feeling 'the best, the best, the best of you'....

Camping Tools: From ditches to Duchess

    shutterstock_257146174

Obviously most people remember to bring a tent as standard  but, when it comes to camping, especially at a festival, there are so many added extras that you can pick up for next to nothing at Poundstretcher which will make bracing the 'great' outdoors infinitely more comfortable!

    1. Don't get stuck in the 'mud'dle...shutterstock_424777246

When you're having a fabulous time watching the Sunset with Ed Sheeran, the last thing you think you'll care about is grass stains or a damp bum!

    shutterstock_331484618

But, later, when you're shivering from laying in what was effectively a bog in your bare legs, you'll probably not care about that 'Castle on the Hill'.

You will, however, probably wish you'd brought a waterproof picnic blanket along to keep you and your friends comfy and dry throughout the whole concert!279486-picnic travel rug_yellow_1000x1000

At £3.99 they’re cheap, bright and practical - perfect for chilling out on, come rain or shine!

Or if you're really going to pull out all the stops, pick up a folding camping chair!

    1000x1000 289360 - GREEN FOLDAWAY CHAIR

You might get some stick from your more ‘free-spirited’ mates who reckon 'you should be dancing' all weekend but, with a built-in drinks holder and in four different colours, you’ll definitely have the last laugh!

Especially when you’re perched on the only thing separating you from the mud that’s claimed the lives of most of your mates’ wellies.

    shutterstock_294538256

Plus, it comes with an easy carry bag to fold it back into so you can always guarantee somewhere comfy to sit!

    shutterstock_259018820

    2. Don't let mealtimes become a Tragedy...

Whilst most people spend the festival walking around looking for their sanity, you may find you fancy something to nibble at some point.

    _YPS0378

Plastic kitchen ware is a great camping idea. Cups (for that much-needed Coffee in the morning), disposable cutlery and plates. After all, you'll need somewhere to put those sausages you burnt on the disposable BBQ

    Picnic-Sets-Both-web

HEALTH TOOLS: REMEMBER, Your body is a TEMPLE, NOT A BIN BAG.

Despite spending 361 days of the year acting moderately normal with three meals a day and ‘a couple’ in the pub on a Friday after work, some people get that caught up in the hippy vibe of a festival, they end up forgetting how to look after themselves within the realms of what’s socially acceptable.

    shutterstock_509370406

Let’s be honest-- festivals are both physically and mentally strenuous, and can only be completed successfully by savvy people. Please note: these are NOT the people who say things like ‘water’s for the weak’ or insist on relating everything back to their ‘gap year’.

So, here’s a list of things you might not have thought of taking but you will definitely need when 'stayin' alive'  at a festival and avoid coming out when it’s home time looking like you’ve just escaped the set of Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ video...

    FMCG FESTIVAL

And finally, make sure you’re not the one needing somebody to 'lean on' at Major Lazer and 'reload' with some Red Bull!

So, there you have it—the list of handy festival essentials at bargain prices! And it doesn't stop there! We have a massive selection of choccies, crisps and nibbles on offer so 'don't you forget about' Poundstretcher and make a pit-stop before you head off to Just Dance!FESTIVAL NIBBLES UPDATED

These prints are a great way to start or finish your own Easter hunt, maybe they’ll lead to a bundle of chocolate eggs or a toy rabbit!

    Easter Baking

Don’t forget the Creme Eggs, it wouldn’t Easter without these little fondant filled beauties! Whether you love them or hate them there’s no denying that their sweet taste and chocolate shell is irresistible when baked into brownies, cookies or a sponge tray bake. Get the kids involved too, they’ll love weighing out all the ingredients, mixing the batter and of course licking the bowl clean!

Crispy cereal cakes and fluffy cupcakes wouldn’t be complete without a cluster of Poppets Mini Eggs on top. With their pastel coloured speckled sugar shells and delectable chocolate centres they’re the perfect finishing touch to your bakes - if you don’t eat them all first that is! Or why not pop them into the centre of your cake mix before your cakes go into the oven? Once baked to a golden brown your cupcakes will have a secret chocolatey centre that the whole family will love.
